As urbanization continues across the world, living in a loft continues to be a very popular and desirable idea. But now we will say a little about the use of concrete walls and ceilings in living quarters, apartments, and cottages. Perhaps soft loft is even more popular overseas. For example, polished concrete floors and concrete walls with textured formwork marks are found in the interiors of half of modern cottages in Australia.

Loft means living in premises originally intended for production or storage needs. More modern and slightly less utilitarian – soft loft, initially uses living spaces with discreet finishes.

However, it should be borne in mind that when planning to leave bare, untreated or plastered walls in the interiors of apartments, you need to take into account some nuances and approach with certain caution. The loft is more suitable for singles or young couples. Girls and women, on the other hand, are usually wary and not very enthusiastic about such “design ideas”.

A concrete wall or ceiling looks better and psychologically easier

In fact, a concrete wall or ceiling looks better and psychologically easier. In a small apartment or room, such a detail may even look funny and ridiculous.

Moreover, the non-plastered wall / ceiling have lost their original meaning – saving in the cottage on materials. What can you save on one wall?

On the plus side, large paintings look good and expressive on such walls, and on non-plastered ceilings, there are a large number of bright designer creative lamps.

If you overdo it with the number of walls and ceilings “like concrete”, you may someday hear from an honest friend: “It’s like in your basement!” Let us remind you that often buildings with a large area were chosen for housing (which gives a feeling of spaciousness), often with full-length windows (imagine how much natural light). In such places, concrete and cement do not create the feel of living in a box. In a dark and cramped room, on the other hand, the atmosphere can become extremely heavy and oppressive.

If you want to enhance this industrial feel, you can use decorative (or even functional) elements such as exposed pipes and communications under the ceiling, electrical wires along the walls. In this case, be very careful – ceilings cannot be lower than 10 feet, more is better.
